Overview
This 2-day Shred Riders’ program is designed to help young people develop fundamental mountain biking skills while riding at an intermediate level. Riders will focus on stability, balance, and control as they navigate challenging trails.
Rider Levels / Rider Grouping System
Our new rider levels system focuses on bike setup, confidence, riding experience, and skill level, replacing the previous age-based grouping. Age will still be a guideline, but it will no longer be the main factor for group placement. More details on rider levels can be found here, along with a pictorial glossary for bike setup and relevant terms. If you’re unsure about where your rider fits, feel free to get in touch for assistance.
Rider Pre-Requisites and Ability Levels
The terrain at La Larr Ba Gauwa is not suitable for beginner or newer riders.
Riders should be confident riding both green (beginner) and ‘hard blue’ (intermediate) trails, operating brakes and gears, and tackling trail features like berms, rock slabs, roll-downs, and steep gradients. If a rider cannot safely navigate the terrain, coaches will inform parents, and alternative arrangements will be made.
For less experienced riders, the ‘MTB Connect Program’ is a better fit, as it only includes green-rated trails and adventure activities.
Session Structure
The program is designed to build essential mountain biking skills, with each session carefully planned to progress riders’ abilities. Sessions feature plenty of trail time, allowing riders to develop confidence, safety, and control on purpose-built terrain. As skills improve, more challenging trails will be accessed. The extended 3-hour sessions include a BYO snack break, and the 1:6 coaching ratio ensures personalised feedback and safe management.
