Overview
This 2-day Rad and Flow Rider program is designed to help kids develop the fundamental skills of mountain biking. Each session is carefully structured to ensure that skills are learned progressively, making it essential for riders to attend both consecutive sessions.
Rider Levels / Rider Grouping System
Our rider levels system focuses on bike setup, confidence, riding experience, and skill level, replacing the previous age-based grouping. Age will still be a guideline, but it will no longer be the main factor for group placement. More details on rider levels can be found here, along with a pictorial glossary for bike setup and relevant terms. If you’re unsure about where your rider fits, feel free to get in touch for assistance.
Session Structure
Each session is designed to progress your child’s fundamental mountain biking skills, focusing on position, balance, and control efficiency. Sessions include fun group activities to build essential skills and confidence, while plenty of trail time helps solidify the learning. As skills improve, riders will gradually access more challenging terrain over the 2 days.
The extended 3-hour sessions include a BYO snack break around 11:30am, followed by nature-based activities to help riders recoup energy before hitting the trails again in the second half of the session. Groups will be formed based on our rider levels, with a coaching ratio of 1:6 to ensure safety and personalised feedback.
- MTB skills – fun group, activities that build essential skills (body position, stability and ability to operate controls efficiently and safely)
- Developing your rider’s ability to ride the trails and mountain bike terrain at Walmer with confidence, safety and with control
- Designed and planned to progress the fundamental skills sets, therefore it is essential that the 2 sessions are completed consecutively
The 3-hour sessions are flexible, with a balance of riding and adventure play, ensuring fun and skill progression. Riders will enjoy plenty of trail time and outdoor activities, with time for a BYO snack break.
